6. Seven brothers
Roberto had given us the address of a bookstore in
Cagliari where they had I.G.M. topo maps, even before we
left Slovenia. We needed those maps in order to ride
more demanding trails without bigger risk of getting
lost. So, we went to Cagliari to look for the bookstore.
But when we finally found it, it was closed due to a holiday!
We were quite desperate... Ana solved the problem,
suggesting that we can buy the maps from Roberto! We
were to call Roberto anyway to see if he had time to go
with us on a tour. Well, he did both, gave us his own photocopies
of the maps for free and went with us on two of his tours.
He made us very happy!
Both tours "I Guadi" and "Mont'Arbu"
were in
Sarabus area, east of Cagliari, around an interesting
mountain called Sette Fratelli (=seven brothers), which
had seven distinctive peaks and a lot of minor ones. The
area was covered with dusty roads and tracks. The routes
offered really nice off road mountain biking, including
long singletracks. The Mont'Arbu DH along a 3.5 km long
single track was according to Roberto one of the most
demanding in Sardinia. It was very rough track with big
rocks and sandy sections- a nice DH! And there was no
asphalt, zero asphalt out of all 36 km. Bravo
Roberto and thanks again for everything!!!
And as it should be for hospitable Sardinians,
Roberto also invited us to dinner. So we had also opportunity
to meet his wife and his baby boy Matteo.
