The forgotten
plateau
The Bloke plateau is one of many
forgotten pieces of Slovenia. And thank god it is. Thus you
can find unspoiled nature crisscrossed with quite a network of
macadam roads and cart tracks. And mountain biking is one of
the best ways to explore the plateau. You can have short as well as
long rides on a very nice and easy terrain.
Starting point
Grahovo is a small village NE of Cerknica lake. It is situated 5 km east of Cerknica
along the main road Unec - Rakek - Cerknica - Loz.
Trail description
You start ascending to the plateau
from the village of Grahovo on a nice macadam road. In the
village of Radlek you branch off to a cart track leading
over the fields. You descend to the central part of the
plateau near the village Fara. After going east, you take a
short climb over Mali hrib and continue towards the Bloke
lake. The cart track in this area can be very muddy after a
heavy rainfall. You return to the village of Radlek on a nice
and panoramic macadam road. In Radlek you close the loop and
return to Grahovo on the same road, but in downhill direction
this time.
Other possibilities
A) The network of cart tracks and
macadam roads gives you a lot of possible different rides. In any case you can
start a ride on the plateau (at no. 12 for example). The
total ascent is only 285 m in this case and thus the trail is
much easier.
B) Described trail can be done in the opposite
direction as well.
C) And the last but not least, you can merge this trail with the trail to neighbor Slivnica
mountain.
