Where to Ride?

5. Traveling
Traveling long distances by bike on a serious off-road
terrain can be the most demanding way of mountain biking.
It is usually done in stages and takes more days or even
weeks. All the equipment is carried along in backpacks or
rather bike panniers, if terrain permits their use.
TransAlp is a good example of traveling by MTB. It is a
very popular crossing of the central massive of the Alps
(Austrian, Italian or Swiss). It usually takes four or
more days, one way by bike and by train on the return.
Since some sections might be extremely difficult, only
backpacks are used. But if you go for example on great
wild high altitude plateaus in far East, then it is easier
with bike panniers.
As you
can see there are a lot of possibilities. all you have to
do now is ride your bike!
